16/06/2019 Ready to Go Again
Garforth Town’s busy pre-season schedule kicks-off on Friday 5th July at Huntington Rovers. North West Counties League side Shelley awaits on Tuesday 9th July, followed by Ilkley Town four days later. The Miners visit last season's FA Cup opponents Northallerton Town on 13th July, before a "Harrogate double" sees them host Railway on the 19th, followed by a short journey to their neighbours Town on the 25th. The final match is at home to Nostell MW on the 27th, before the league season proper begins on Saturday 3rd August.

The Chocolate Beauty Spa, at High Street, in Morley has been crowned the Yorkshire Evening Post Salon of the Year 2019 Shanda Wright, owner of the Chocolate Beauty Spa, said they were delighted to win the trophy. Shanda also has another salon in Garforth and is about to open a third elsewhere in the city. Jason’s Hair Salon, High Street, Kippax was one of the ten shortlisted candidates for the award.

15/06/2019 Kippax Teenager Skydives for Air Ambulance
Teenager Leah Bell from Kippax who lost her dad and brothers in a road traffic accident 10 years ago has celebrated their memory by taking part in a 10,000ft skydive, raising more than £1,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Leah was only seven-years-old when she and her family were involved in the collision, in which she sustained a number of severe injuries. She said “I did it to say a massive thank you to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance for their efforts in trying to keep my dad and brothers with me.”

Garforth Musical Society’s Christmas pantomime will be Dick Whittington. Performances will take place at the Miners Welfare Hall from Tuesday 3rd December to Saturday 7th December. The show start at 7.15pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8 and go on sale from 21st October at SPT Uniforms on Main Street

The Spirit of le Tour de Yorkshire award recognises an individual, community or business that fully embraced the essence of the Tour, and Paul Flintoft from Kippax is this year’s worthy recipient. Paul worked tirelessly to bring Kippax together ahead of the race and his butcher’s shop on the High Street became the nerve centre the village’s unbelievable support.

03/01/2019 Peckfield and Parlington Plans Squashed by the Inspectors
Hearty congratulations to Garforth Neighbourhood Forum, the Save Parlington Campaign and our local councillors for their sustained campaigns against building houses on Green Belt land around Garforth and Aberford. We are not short of brown field sites in the Outer South East of Leeds so there was never any need to use farm land for much needed affordable housing. Thank you also to the Inspectors for showing LCC the error of their ways. We must all hope their recommendation is heeded.

The grand opening of the Grand Bengal Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant and Takeaway takes place on 26th September at 18 Cross Hills Kippax. There are opening offers for dining in and takeaways. Hillam based greengrocer Bert’s Barrow have been shortlisted for Best Independent Retailer in this year’s Yorkshire's Finest Taste Awards. The winner will be announced on 2nd November.

10/09/2016 Local Airport’s Charter Flights Plan
The owners of the Leeds East Airport at Church Fenton, Tadcaster, have applied for an operator's licence by the Civil Aviation Authority. The airport plans to offer up to four flights a day to Cannes, Faro and Malaga from May 2017. Residents have raised concerns over aircraft noise and an increase in traffic congestion. A spokesman for the airport said there were no plans to introduce scheduled flights but the airfield would concentrate on a limited number of "VIP service" charter flights costing around £1,000 per person for a return ticket.
